1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
I have been taking classes at Body Karma for about 2 ½ years. I have enjoyed yoga, Zumba, meditation and all the different special classes such as restorative yoga, and happy hips workshop. I think my favorite is yoga, because I get to really understand my body and it’s abilities
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
Unlike going to a gym, I want to come to the studio and look forward to doing new things.
I have become very much aware of what I am capable of physically and feel much more peace and mindfulness. Flexibility has been the greatest change for me. I feel stronger in mind and body and am grateful for all the wonderful people I have met and the friends I have made.
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
The space at Body Karma is very welcoming and comfortable. All the teachers are very good at making the practice work for all the students. Making adjustments for issues like knee pain, back pain, etc. helps all of us at different times. Jess is so upbeat and even though the classes can be tough, I find I want to succeed just for her.
Zumba is awesome and the time flies by. It’s great to know that if you can’t jump because of ankle or knee pain, you can modify moves to fit your needs.
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
I started coming with a friend, and that was key for me. Support from someone you know as well as the instructors is really helpful. Knowing that you don’t have to be able to do everything right away might be helpful for newbies. Trust your body and don’t overdo it, and you will enjoy yourself!
5. Anything else you want to share?
I tell everyone about Body Karma and how much I enjoy the classes and how great I feel. Taking care of ourselves is very important and that was a big lesson for me.

1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
I have been taking classes for 3 years and I enjoy Zumba and Yoga the most.
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
When I first started I really wasn’t sure I’d be able to commit to working out or be able to do the actual routines and after a short time I realized it was definitely possible. I feel that taking classes is something just for me and that it is okay to do this for myself. It helps me be a better person both mentally and physically. I have been able to keep my weight down and I am able to do more physical activities from building my endurance by taking Zumba. I also feel that Yoga helps me relax and develop an overall feeling of calm. I have developed much more flexibility from Yoga and that helps with everyday aches and pains.
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
I truly enjoy the classes mostly because of the instructors! They are fun, upbeat and very accommodating to your ability. The studio is on the smaller side which is nice because there is no feelings of intimidation and you are able to focus on the routines and really grow your abilities. The instructors are always coming up with new routines which makes the classes remain challenging and keeps you on your toes! I have also met a lot of really nice people in the classes and have fun taking them knowing they’ll be there!
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
If you are unsure of what you’re capable of or not really sure of what type of workout you want to do this is the place to find out!! Body Karma is low key and not intimidating and offers so many different classes to pick from. And Jess is always available to help in your journey!
5. Anything else you want to share?
I am so grateful that I chose Body Karma to begin the fitness aspect of my weight loss journey 3 years ago. Along with my diet the workouts that I have been doing have allowed me to lose over 40 pounds during the first year and continue to help me to maintain that loss. And because of how good I have felt with the classes I have taken over the last 3 years I am happy to say they are not just something to do they are a part of my lifestyle! Thank you to Jess, Tristan and all of the instructors at Body Karma that make it a wonderful place to be!

1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
I have been attending Body Karma for almost two years now. I’ve been interested in yoga for awhile, but I had trouble with my knees and knew getting up and down off the floor would be difficult. Chair yoga intrigued me and one day the library had a free trial lesson and that’s where I had the good fortune to meet Jessica. After participating in the chair yoga classes I began taking balance classes. As I felt myself getting stronger I knew I needed to add cardio to my exercise plan so now I also take a Zumba class.
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
I have seen the strengthening benefits from going to Body Karma and I know I need to work at it in order to continue to make progress. Honestly, I have not carried over what I have learned the way I would like. For me, I need to go to the classes to reap the benefits. The benefits seem very simple, but are needed to navigate everyday activities. I am physically stronger which enables me to walk up a flight of stairs without stopping, I can bend down and pick something up without back pain. I can walk my dog at a brisk pace and this winter I was able to keep my balance after stepping on a sheet of black ice. On a more personal note, I continue to struggle with my weight, but taking these classes have enabled me to go down two dress sizes because of the shaping and toning. In addition, the classes are helping me to increase and add more stringent activities to my everyday life.
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
Jessica has been a great listener to my needs and has adjusted the movements so that I receive the most benefit. She is always the cheerleader for the group and she knows what we can and cannot do. With support and repetition she eventually helps us succeed. The classes are fun and it is a nonjudgmental space where one can go and “do what you can.” In addition , I have met some great new friends at Body Karma and we do have some great laughs.
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
When I was working, I believed I did not have the time to exercise. When I finally had the time I was in bad shape. I wanted to garden and do projects around the house, but I had trouble “moving” the way I needed to in order to accomplish my goals. My advice is not to wait to get in shape or to get strong. When you give your “all” to your family and your job I am guessing you are left exhausted and that doesn’t leave much for yourself. Even just one hour a week can help you feel better both physically and emotionally.
5. Anything else you want to share?
Body Karma has a wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring group of instructors. They have created an environment where no matter your age or ability, you can find success. Jessica and her associates have helped me get back on the road to an amazing second half of my life and for that I will always be grateful.

1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
I started taking Yoga classes approx. 4 years ago and Zumba 2 years ago. At the age of 56 I had a heart attack caused by anxiety, stress, being overweight, and poor eating habits. My cardiologist suggested that I should do some kind of yoga and meditation for the health benefits that will help with my recovery. Jess was having some kind of special at that time, so I decided maybe I should check out this Body Karma Studio. My first class was on a Tuesday at 6am with Chelsey and thankfully I was the only one there on that morning! After I got over the awkwardness of doing something new, I realized this is where I wanted (needed) to be. I then attended a 6 week Yoga Boot Camp program. During each week I would attend 2 Boot Camp classes and the 3rd class was my choice. I was going to count my morning yoga classes, but nooo.... Jess suggested I should do Zumba to add cardio to my weekly schedule. I struggled at first, but now I keep going back for more. I enjoy attending both Yoga and Zumba.
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
I always thought I was not a Yoga or Zumba person. I could not sit still and be quiet, touch my toes or even understand the purpose of Yoga. Zumba intimated me because I have 2 left feet (metaphorically speaking), and did not want to share that info with other people. This past March it has been 5 years since my heart attack and the benefits I have received attending Body Karma has been documented in my health charts. I am healthier today than I was 5 years ago. (note to self: self-care is not selfish and I am worth taking care of me first.) Currently I have been dealing with several stressful situations and the support I have been receiving not only through weekly yoga and Zumba classes, but with the friendship, kindness and laughter within the Body Karma environment.
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
When I walk through the door at Body Karma I feel like I can exhale and I know that this time is just for me. Attending yoga I learn something new about the practice and about myself at every class. Yoga centers me. Yeh, I know that sounds silly, but those who practice yoga understand. Zumba is a blast! I am slowly learning that I do not have 2 left feet, and I can keep up and follow along. I do Zumba with Tristin or Jess or sometimes both! I may moan and groan and make faces at them, but I truly appreciate both of them. Their Zumba programs are fun, crazy and an awesome workout. Join us, it’s a blast!
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
Body Karma is a safe space to explore your interest in Yoga, Zumba or any other classes they offer. My advice is just don’t do one and done. Take several different classes, and ones that are taught by different teaches. If you have concerns or apprehensions discuss them with Jess or any of the Body Karma Staff. The BK instructors will help you with any modifications to accommodate your needs, encourage you to feel comfortable to grow in your practice and guide you through your own personal self-care journey.
5. Anything else you want to share?
I do not think of myself as a workout warrior, I am just following doctor’s orders.
I have been blessed with many gifts from God and I want to live to enjoy them. Attending classes at Body Karma Studio is a major part of my weekly routine for I want to maintain good health so I may embrace life. Every month my BK classes are entered on my calendar first! The true Warriors of Body Karma are Jess, Tristin and all the Staff! Thank you.

1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
I’ve been taking classes since the day Body Karma Studio opened. I love yoga and I love the workshops.
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
My mind is much calmer because I meditate regularly now. And my body feels healthier when I get to yoga on a regular basis. I really miss it when I can’t go.
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
I love that the studio is smaller and very laid back. It’s not intimidating like other, bigger places can be. And I love all the different yoga teachers’ ways of teaching. I have never not enjoyed a class.
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
If you are just starting out, Body Karma Studio is the place to be. If other. Larger gyms or studios are intimidating, then Body Karma would be a great fit. Everyone is kind and friendly, and there is no judgement.

Yoga has been an important part of my self-care program. Mentally it has enhanced my self-esteem and confidence level as well as provide serenity to my life. 3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?

Physically it has strengthened my muscles, core and balance. This all works together to help me keep a positive attitude, have fun and socialize.
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
The best advice I can give is to be patient with yourself, relax and have fun. The movements and positions will feel more comfortable as you practice, so the more classes you attend the easier it will become. Work on the breathing techniques because they will help you relax in class and in your daily life. Enjoy yourself and let the classes become a positive part of your day.
5. Anything else you want to share?
I would like to thank the instructors I’ve been working with (Jessica and Tracy for yoga and Kris for Ballet Barre) for all the support and encouragement they’ve been giving me during our classes together. It’s through their excellent teaching styles and dedication that I’ve made such growth. Body Karma is definitely my “happy place”.

1. How long have you been taking classes at Body Karma Studio and what type of classes do you enjoy the most?
My relationship with Body Karma started on the sands of Hammonasset Beach in the summer of 2018 with free beach yoga. I could not know at that time that it would lead to enrollment in a year-long yoga journey including a 200 hour YTT! LOL! Jessica and her staff have provided a source of education, encouragement and support throughout this process. In terms of what I enjoy the most…the opportunity to grow, thrive and just be me on my journey to best self!
2. How has your mindset changed and what benefits have you received from the classes?
I found a sense of self and discovered an unknown strength and ability to learn. There is also balance in realizing and believing in my ability to tap into a state of mindfulness and calm..which I use often on and more importantly off the mat! Believe me!
3. Some of your favorite things about the studio or classes and why?
The creative energy which is encouraged in every instructor and student and the commitment of each instructor to foster and nurture each of us to be our best in that moment. In regards to YTT, I find myself looking forward to those weekends and have developed relationships that will carry me through this lifetime. My classmates and Jess are some of my favorite things!
4. Any advice for newbies or anyone thinking about taking classes?
A first step, a first tooth, a first taste, a first test, a first kiss etc. and we survived them all! I know a first class is scary; but understand that you are not alone and will have someone there looking out for you and practicing with you. Everyone at Body Karma is there to encourage you to succeed! Don’t let your perception of “what is yoga?” be driven by the opinion or experience of others. Have your own experience and I promise- no one ever said, I regret that I went to Yoga today😊
5. Anything else you want to share?
For those of you thinking beyond the mat, consider changing your role and your practice with participation in the next 200 hour YTT. Whether it be to broaden our own practice or to share your practice with others in an instructor capacity, you will develop a true passion for the practice and a bond with your fellow participants that is unprecedented!
