Embodying the Yama and Niyamas

Embodying the Yama and Niyamas FB Cover (1080 x 1350 px).png
Tuesdays, April 23 to July 9, 2024           2pm - 3:30pm

The Yamas and Niyamas are the ethical rules within the umbrella of yoga philosophy. They are broken down into 10 basic principles, outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The Yamas and Niyamas are the foundation of the whole yogic practice. By honoring these ethics of “right living” we are immersed in mindful action and striving to cultivate a more present and aware state of being.

During this series we will review explore each Yama and Niyama; Ahimsa (non-harming), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (‘right use of energy’), Aparigraha (non-greed), Saucha (cleanliness), Santosha (contentment), Tapas (discipline), Svadhyaya (study of the self), Isvara Pranidhana (contemplation of a higher power). Then during each week, in a supportive group setting, create personal mantras, meditations, reflections, and activities to guide us into fully embodying each principle into our everyday life. We will then challenge ourselves to spend the week living the practice and discuss the success and challenges during our next meeting.

This series is open to all but a particularly wonderful adjunct to our previous Yama and Niyama series.

Yoga & Acupuncture

Yoga and Acupuncture IG.png
Sunday, April 28, 2024             5:30pm - 7pm

Welcome to your monthly reset. Your monthly moment to come home to yourself. Your monthly check in.

Yoga and Acupuncture is a unique opportunity to gently move the stagnation we often feel in the body and mind followed by a deep rest to give the body space to adapt, cultivate its natural healing desire, and settle into the parasympathetic (rest and digest function of the body). Within the practice, we will start with a mix of breath-work and a slow flow followed by an extended savasana where you will receive acupuncture/acupressure and gentle tui na (Traditional Chinese Medicine Massage). You’ll get to experience what us acupuncturists refer to as a “needle nap” which can be an incredibly deep rest for some.

All of these modalities are to your comfort, always. We hope you are able to walk away feeling calm, present in your own body, and deeply cared for and nourished.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Cost: $38 per guest

Preregistration required. No refunds or credits will be given.

Restorative Yoga Teacher Training

Restorative Yoga Teacher Training (Instagram Post).png
Friday, June 7, 2024          5:30pm - 8:30pm
Saturday, June 8, 2024     12:30pm - 6:30pm
Sunday, June 9, 2024        10:30am - 5:30pm

This class is open to all, you do not need to be a yoga teacher to participate.

Restorative yoga is a soothing type of yoga, that encourages practitioners to slow down and open the body through passive stretches. With the use of props, sound, guided meditation, breath works, adjustments, aromatherapy, and/or adjustments restorative yoga teachers help their students into a deep state of active relaxation. Thus, slipping out of the sympathetic nervous system, and into the parasympathetic nervous system where healing begins. Clinical research has found that restorative yoga can decrease depression and anxiety, lower blood sugar levels in diabetic suffers, improve pain symptoms for cancer patients, decrease the heart rate for those battling high blood pressure or heart disease, lessen hot flashes and other symptoms associated with menopause and even boost weight loss.

This training is designed to teach you how to create a restorative yoga class for anyone. During the weekend you will learn the basic fundamentals of teaching restorative yoga; basic anatomy, use of props, poses and modifications. Additionally we will discuss the science behind breath work, meditation, sound and aromatherapy, and how to incorporate those tools into a practice that best serves your students. You will be able to create a class that allows practitioners to renew, relax, let go and heal. All who attend will have the opportunity to lead practices with your peers in the classroom setting to gain confidence in cueing, public speaking, sequencing, and classroom management.

After completion of the 16 hour in person training, all participants will be required to teach 4 hours of restorative classes within a 3 month period. An assessment form will be provided to have clients complete after class, as well as a self-assessment form. Upon completion of hours you will have a one on one meeting with the course director to review assessments and receive your certificate of completion.
